The TGA has fined Zafe Zone almost $40,000 for allegedly promoting its disinfectant as effective against coronavirus, without having the necessary approvals from the TGA.
Additionally, the advertising allegedly breached the Therapeutic Goods Advertising Code (No.2) 2018 by promoting the product as being safe, harmless or without side-effects. Advertisements for therapeutic goods cannot state or imply that they are safe.
It is also alleged Zafe Zone falsely advertised the product had been approved by the TGA.
The TGA has previously warned businesses to ensure that they meet all regulatory requirements if they intend to supply hand sanitisers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
